The beginnings of a sewing project

Ok people.  I had hoped that day two of blogging in August would be all about these awesome throw pillows I made, but...they are taking longer than I thought to make.  Or, it took me longer than I expected to start them*.
Usually when one wants to take a nap on one of our couches, it is necessary to go get a pillow from one of the beds for support.  The arms are too high and create strain in the neck.  Actually, I can't believe it's taken this long for us to decide we need throw pillows so we don't have to keep using bedroom pillows during naps.  Anyway, I wanted to try to make them instead of just going out and buying pillows.
My original plan was to cut out some big squares of fabric, sew them together, and stuff them with whatever people stuff pillows with.  After some research, I found that it was better for beginners to use pillow forms and just make the cover for the pillow.  I couldn't argue that, and Joann was having a big sale on pillow forms, so everyone wins.
Still low on skills and ideas, I turned to youtube for some ideas and came across this:

After getting all of my To Do list done today, I set out to cutting the fabric I got at Joann, and pinned the hems for the back of the pillow covers (in the video she is making one small cover....I am attempting four larger covers).  After sewing one of the hems, the thread needed to be rethreaded and then it got stuck in the machine, so I decided to call it a day.  I will finish the rest of the project tomorrow (so really, I'm getting two blogposts out of this project!).

*Or it could've been that I was watching HGTV the whole time I was cutting the fabric and kept getting distracted by first-time home-buyers and international house hunters.

More tomorrow!
